Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ Sheet)
Q. How long will Multi Mat Last?
A. The life span of Multi Mat depends on many factors, including type of use, (ie: engraving, profiling through
material, or laser hold down), proper cleaning and handling. The average user can expect many months or
even years of use. One great Multi Mat advantage is that it is double sided, thereby providing double the life
span when compared to other single sided products.
Q. What is the cleaning procedure for Multi Mat?
A. Cleaning Multi Mat is simple and easy. Merely use a soft sponge and running water to remove chips, dust or dirt,
and then allow to dry. No chemicals or cleaners are required.
Q. How is Multi Mat affixed to the engraving table, and can it be removed?
A. Because Multi Mat is double sided, it holds itself to the engraving table top. No double stick tapes, vacuums,
or clamps are necessary, and Multi Mat can be easily removed and stored, then reinstalled by placing it in position
and gently pressing down. No other hold down system is so fast and easy to use.
Q. Is there any clean up required after using Multi Mat?
A. For most situations the answer is no, however Multi Mat does leave a slight oily residue on some engraving plates.
If you wish to use double stick tape as a plate mounting system, this residue can be easily removed with a cloth and
rubbing alcohol, or the double stick tape can be applied to the plate before engraving, and then used with Multi Mat.
Q. What happens if I cut through the engraving material into Multi Mat, is it ruined?
A. Multi Mat has a self healing feature. Small cuts in the surface of Multi Mat should not cause a problem, and seem to heal
themselves. Of course continued cuts over a long period of time will degrade the effectiveness of Multi Mat.
Many small enclosed cuts (closed path such as a series of circles, or squares) could cause sections of the mat to come out
which of course would degrade its performance.
Q. Multi Mat seems expensive, how can I justify paying that much?
A. Although Multi Mat will wear out eventually, it is not really a consumable item like double stick tape or labor.
Multi Mat makes life a lot easier for the engraver, and will pay for itself very quickly in time saved and ease of use.
When the cost of double stick hold down tape, along with the associated time and labor needed for application and removal
is figured in, Multi Mat becomes even more cost effective.
Q. How is Multi Mat sold, and how do other engravers utilize it to the best advantage?
A. Multi Mat is sold in standard sizes; 12" X 12", 12" X 24", 24" X 24", and 24" X 48" and can be cut to size with a
standard plastic shear. Some users will cut the mat to their table size. Others prefer to cut their Multi Mat into several
equal parts corresponding to the size plate that they most often engrave. They then use one, and keep the others in reserve for
future use.
